Many accountants in Cheltenham now quote a fixed monthly fee rather than charging by the hour. The headline figure matters less than what it covers, so this is how our fees work and what to check when you compare quotes.
Our fees
We have four business packages, each a fixed monthly fee agreed before we start:
- Core, from £100 + VAT a month.
- Core +, from £250 + VAT a month.
- Growth, from £450 + VAT a month, which adds monthly management accounts, a cash-flow forecast and review meetings.
- Finance Partner, from £850 + VAT a month: the whole finance function, run for you.
What each package covers is set out on our what's included page. Personal tax returns, and one-off work such as company formation or a catch-up of old records, are quoted before we start.
What drives the fee
- Volume. The number of transactions, invoices and bank accounts.
- Who does the bookkeeping. Keeping your own records in Xero costs less than handing them over.
- VAT and payroll. Quarterly VAT returns and monthly payroll are regular work through the year.
- The state of the records. Clean, up-to-date records cost less to work with than a box of receipts in January.
- Complexity. Several companies, property, stock or construction industry scheme work all add time.
What to check when comparing quotes
- Is the director's own tax return included, or extra?
- Are phone calls and emails included, or charged by the hour?
- Who pays for the software? We pass our Xero partner discount on to clients whose subscriptions we hold.
- Will you deal with the same person each time?
- Is the firm chartered? ICAEW member firms are regulated and must hold professional indemnity insurance. You can check any firm at find.icaew.com.
