We want this website to be usable by as many people as possible, including anyone using a screen reader, navigating by keyboard alone, using speech recognition software, or relying on magnification or high contrast settings.
What we have done
- Text and background colours are chosen for contrast rather than decoration.
- Headings run in order, so a screen reader can move through a page by structure.
- Links and buttons are labelled with what they do, not with “click here”.
- The site works at any window width, including on a phone, and text can be enlarged without the layout breaking.
- Interactive tools use standard form controls that work with a keyboard.
- Nothing moves, flashes or plays automatically.
What we know is not perfect
Being honest is more useful than claiming a standard we have not tested against. Areas we are less certain about:
- Our calculators present results as they update. Screen reader users may not always be told that a figure has changed.
- The booking calendar on our contact page is provided by a third party, and its accessibility is not something we control.
- Some documents we publish may not be fully tagged for screen readers.
If any of these affects you, contact us and we will deal with it directly rather than asking you to wait for a site update.
Getting the information another way
Everything on this website is available by phone, by email, by post, or in a meeting at our office. If you would prefer a document in large print, in a different format, or read to you over the phone, ask and we will arrange it. There is no charge and you do not need to explain why.
